How to print a family tree from the FamyTale app
A family tree is not just a graphic image but a real family story conveying information about your lineage over generations. Modern apps like FamyTale make the process of creating a family tree easy and convenient. However, after the tree is finished, many want to print it on paper to have a beautiful decoration for the home or keep it in an archive. In this article, we’ll explain how to print your family tree created in the FamyTale app, both at home and using a print shop.
Step 1. Complete the family tree in the FamyTale app
Before printing, make sure your family tree is fully complete. In the FamyTale app, you can create a tree by adding information about relatives, birth and death dates, family connections, and attaching photos. After entering all the data, you can choose the appearance of the tree (in the “tree view” section, select which data to display, the appearance of the tree, and the person from whom the tree is built, as well as hide or expand certain branches directly on the tree). Now you can proceed to create a file for downloading and printing.
Step 2. Export the family tree from FamyTale
Once your family tree is ready, you can export it in various formats. To do so, go to the main menu of the app, select the “File for printing” section, and follow the on-screen instructions.
Tip 1: The “Create with transparent background” feature lets you create a file without a background if you wish to continue editing your tree using a graphics editor.
Tip 2: If you changed the appearance of the tree or restructured it from a different person, update the print file.
Tip 3: If your file looks blurry — don’t worry. The file itself is always created in high quality, but due to its large size, not all apps on your phone can open it properly. To view the file in high quality, open it using your phone’s standard photo gallery app or save it to a computer. Also note that if you send the image via WhatsApp or Viber, those messengers will compress the image, making it unreadable. To send the file to yourself or others without quality loss, it’s best to use “send without compression” (as a document) via Telegram or email.
Step 3. Tree design
For design before printing in graphic editors, you can download the tree file with a transparent background. In the “Download file for printing” section, check the “Create with transparent background” option. For highly artistic, customized design, you can turn to a designer who can help you create a personalized family tree. It won’t just be a graphical representation of your family tree, but a unique art project. Together, you can choose a design style, add photos, illustrations, mottos, or quotes from your family, and create a true family heirloom. Such services are also often offered by print shops.
Tip 1: Once the family tree is printed, you can frame it with glass for interior decoration or archiving. This will complement your home and ensure it lasts longer.
Tip 2: If your tree is small, you can laminate it. Laminating will protect the paper from damage, dust, and moisture.
Step 4. Printing the family tree
Printing on a home printer
Now that you have the family tree file, you can print it on your home printer.
If the tree isn’t large, it will fit on a single A4 sheet when printing at home. However, even a large tree can be printed at home in sections on A4 sheets, which you can glue together. If you’re interested in this option, email us at support@famytale.ru, and we’ll send you instructions on how to do it.
Tip: If you want your family tree to be more durable, print it on thick paper or photo paper for a better look and higher quality.
Printing at a print shop
If you don’t have a suitable printer or want to print the tree in a large format, it’s best to use the services of a print shop. Print shops offer a wide choice of print sizes and materials, and depending on your preferences, you can pick the one you want.
- Printing on paper — the standard option available at all print shops
- Printing on photo paper (matte or glossy) — if you want the tree to look more presentable and sturdy, you can choose high-quality photo paper with bright colors
- Printing on canvas — a more expensive service that lets you create a unique home decoration
- Printing on flags or banners — for unusual formats or outdoor advertising
- Printing on synthetic material — for durable and weather-resistant options
Tip 1: Some print shops offer Leporello printing—a folded accordion-style paper consisting of several panels connected to form a long strip when unfolded. This format is perfect for printing a family tree that is easy to store or display, unrolling it as needed. It’s a great option for a gift or a unique family artifact that is at once easy to store and visually attractive.
Tip 2: For budget-friendly printing of a large tree, you can use the services of print shops that print drawings for students and engineers. They can print files in non-standard sizes with high quality, and the print will only cost you 300–500 rubles.
